Cyclists beat the Harriers

The annual Cyclists versus Harriers race is a festive highlight for Ayrshire off-road enthusiasts with the event now fast approaching it’s 50th year.
Ayr Burners Cycling QTS fielded five members including Kev Pugh who donned a running vest for the days proceedings. 2015 proved to be an unsuccessful edition for the two wheeled brigade following long spells of heavy rain, but this years course benefitted from a mild and dry autumnal spell which would play into the hands of the cyclists.
A strong start from Brian Yates of Carrick Cycling Club strung the field out from the off with Steven Currie of Glasgow Ivy CC and Burners rider JP Baxter just managing to keep Yates just in sight as the race entered the Irvine Moor for 2 laps. Yates topped off a fine Cyclocross season with an emphatic win, with Currie and Baxter filling out the remaining podium spots. James Edwards utilized his recent Scottish Cyclocross Series racing to good effect with a fantastic 5th place for The Burners.
