Summer Series 2023 Overall Results

We’ve had a great season with 21 Burners taking part in the Handicapped Summer TT Series. For the last 5 months we’ve taken on a variety of Strava segments, with varied terrain. It’s been great to see everyone who took part giving their best efforts.

Our handicaps were calculated based on last years times, and for those newcomers this year they were allocated following their first effort. In terms of the series – it was a best 4 efforts from 5. For those taking part in fewer efforts they were allocated a handicap time for the events missed. Jude received an additional handicap penalty since she won a National Master’s Championship event.

Those of us who improved our times by using aerobars (that hadn’t been included in our handicaps) can expect a larger handicap next year!

It was great to see a number of members joining in the series for the first time this year. It was great to see people progress in their own efforts to balance the effort they put in, but leaving themselves enough to make it to the end. For some the opposite was true, to learn to give it a bit more effort as they still had plenty of energy left afterwards. Ultimately, it was about everyone’s individual approach and what they wanted out of it.

Big drum roll for this year’s overall series winner, John McFarlane with a handicapped season time of 45:08. He even went off cycling up to the Carrick Masts after the final race!
