CTT Scottish Hill Climb Championships
As the autumn begins so does hill climbing season. For the last few years a small number of the Burners have been enjoying taking part in the CTT Scottish Hill Climb Championship organised by local club Ayr Roads. The previous 2 years have been on Dundonald Hill, but this year the event moved further south to Largs Hill near Straiton (one of the Ayrshire Alps).
Unfortunately, overall entries were down this year but Burners still had 3 entrants, Janet, Jude and Alex.
With the move to Largs hill this also almost doubled the climbing time – so even more lactic acid could build up in legs. To make things even more entertaining there was also a classic car Tour of Scotland taking place so we were overtaken on the climb by some very nice Porsche 911s.
Alex put in a remarkable time up the hill to come first V40+ male rider, and Jude claimed 3rd Female narrowly being beaten by Toni Macintosh of Ayr Roads. Janet had the difficult task of being first off, so had no-one to chase up the hill, which always makes things even harder. Hopefully next year we’ll see a few more Burners joining in the fun that is hill climbing.
