Congratulations to our new Ride Leaders!
We are delighted that all five of our candidates have been certified through Cycling Scotland as Cycle Ride Leaders. The group undertook the course to support delivery of our planned rides and activities throughout 2015 and had to deliver presentations, undertake theory training include ride preparation and risk assessments before practical exercises including trail side repair and snaking.
Given the collective experience of the group the scenario planning session led to lively debate as candidates provided real examples. However, it was the discussion about how to manage a ride attended by both Lightening McQueen and Mater that generated the most enthusiasm (pictured left).
Originally our trainees were expecting to complete the practical assessment during the scheduled Ayrshire Alps Ride before it was postponed due to the weather. But despite the cold and breezy conditions, our candidates planned and led a ride around Troon and Prestwick to put the theory into practice. The highlight of the course came during the debrief when a tray of home-made chocolate muffins were shared around!
Ayr Burners Cycling will look to schedule a further Cycle Ride Leader course during the summer to support more members through the training.
