Ayrshire’s fastest growing cycling group!

As of the 31st January, membership of Ayr Burners Cycling exceeds sixty people! An incredible start for the group and one which we are very proud of – thank you for all the interest. Best of all, this includes more than 20 women and 14 youths!

Ayrshire Alps in leading UK magazine

CyclistAyr Burners members Rod Henderson and Jason Kean appear in the March edition of Cyclist Magazine in a feature all about riding in the Ayrshire Alps.  Resplendent in their Ayrshire Alps jerseys, Rod and Jason lead the staff writers across several of the climbs in the area including the Nic O Balloch.  This is fantastic publicity for the project and has led to a real increase in interest.  In other Ayrshire Alps news, Ayr Burners have made an application to the ‘Active Places’ fund for a grant to install public display boards, roadside markers and develop a smartphone application.  We should hear by the end of March whether we progress.

Cyclocross Skills session proves popular

On Saturday 31st January we hosted our first Cyclocross skills session at Rozelle Park in Ayr.  As well as seasoned racers like Joanne Baxter and Lindsay McGarvie, youngsters Struan Knox, Douglas Glendinning and Harry McGarvie were more than game for the various skills and drills, proving that the fastest riders are not always the quickest!

abccxAyr Burners are currently scheduling in more Cyclocross sessions in March and April.  Using traffic free environments and non-challenging terrain, Cyclocross is a fantastic way to bring riders of all abilities together for fun and exercise.

Ayr Burners joins British Cycling

Following request from members, Ayr Burners has affiliated with British Cycling in addition to CTC.  The main benefit for joining is that our child protection and welfare policies now align with those recommended by SportScotland and we have access to guidance and insurance for our events.  Our affiliation means members can also link their existing Scottish Cycling membership to Ayr Burners.

Ayr Burners Clothing

We are working with professional designer and Burners member Alec Macfarlane to design a new kit for Ayr Burners members.  Our intention is to get this made through British based IMPSport who also produce the Ayrshire Alps Cycling Kit.  More news to follow…

Don’t forget our first members meeting is on Tuesday 3rd February at the Savoy Park Hotel in Ayr –  we look forward to meeting you there!
