Burners Arran Trip – Saturday 8th June

Next Saturday the Burners are off for a day trip to Arran. The meticulously planned schedule involves everyone getting to Ardrossan Harbour for the 9.45 boat and ,,,,, err, that’s it.

Actually, there is a bit more to it than that. We’ve contacted CalMac about the prospects of the boat being full, and they have advised that they’re expecting it to be a busy crossing. It’s not unheard of for cyclists (including some unlucky Burners) to be turned away because the boat is full, so the recommendation from CalMac is to get there as early as possible. Basically it’s a case of ‘first come, first served’, so we’re aiming to be queueing to get on about 9am.

The first train from Ayr doesn’t get in until about 9.25, so the best options are to drive or ride up. There will be a group from Ayr riding up, so head over to the Burners Facebook page where the thread there will give an idea of meeting places and times. If you don’t use Facebook, feel free to post a comment at the foot of this page, and we’ll get in touch that way.

What we do / where we go once we’re over will be weather dependant to an extent, so we’ll finalise that over coffee and breakfast on board. For those that haven’t been before, a loop is about 56 miles, so we’ll have plenty of time to make it back for the 4.40 boat back to Ardrossan.

See you on board !!!!

Hi Scott. We’ll put a plan out tomorrow once we know the weather hasn’t put anyone off. Current plan is to meet at the Balgarth at 7am, picking up people en-route (in Ayr, Prestwick and Troon). Be great if you can make it along.

Good shout. Weather looks like light showers at the moment, so unless there’s a big change, we’re still heading up. Hope to see you there ….
