Round 2 of the Scottish Cyclocross Series saw four members of Ayr Burners Cycling QTS head North to Knockburn Loch on Sunday.
This established event is one of the highlights of the Cyclocross calendar and a firm favourite of the riders with its challenging course set the stunning backdrop of the Cairngorm National Park.
Event hosts Deeside Thistle conjured up some notable changes to last years route, with a directional change giving the racers some fresh new challenges to face.
First up was Cammy McGarvie in the Under 14’s event. A strong ride from the youngster resulted in an excellent 9th place finish in his first competitive outing of the 2016/17 season.
Gary Currie took the line in the packed over 40’s race where a strong start would be essential with over 100 entrants on the grid. Gary opened up his 2016 Cyclocross account with a solid ride which earned him 50th place.
Kev Pugh and JP Baxter were in action in the Open race where a well trodden course and inclement weather made for technical conditions in the afternoon. Harry Johnson of Pro Vision took the win in commanding fashion from Davies Lines with JP the highest placed Burner on the day in 25th place from 70 starters. Best positioned Ayshire rider was Brian Yates of Carrick Cycling Club who rode home in an outstanding 14th place which secures Brian an all important favourable grid position for round 3 at Strathclyde Park.
