Racing returns with the Doonbank Trofee

After a lengthy postponement, the 7th Edition of the Doonbank Trofee will go ahead on Friday 4th June 2021, albeit in a slightly shrunken format.

The positive news that South Ayrshire Council will enter Tier 2 restrictions from the 17th May allows organisers Ayr Burners Cycling to put on the popular event, with three fields of up to 30 riders participating.

To adapt to the reduced fields, the Burners will debut a signficantly changed course with an estimated lap time of just 4 minutes. The aim is to help keep riders in sight of one another with fast and explosive riding anticipated.

Format

There will be three events:

With spaces limited in each field, online registration is essential and can be completed on the British Cycling website

When selecting the fields, priority will be given to Scottish Cycling South West Riders

U12 Fun Ride – FREE TO ENTER

As in previous editions, the Burners will also host a 20minute, non-competitive fun-ride to give riders under 12-years-old the chance to sample cyclocross.

The course is adapted from the race course, including all the fun of the start / finish line.

As with the adult races, spaces are limited and all riders must register in advance at our eventbrite booking page.

Responsible adults should be with their children at all times, except during the event, when they must wait in proximity to the start / finish area (while maintaining social distancing).

The course does not feature significant elevation, but due to the changes in surface and terrain all participants should be able to confidently ride a two-wheel pedal bike, without assistance.

COVID19 precautions

Like everything else, Covid19 has dominated event planning and we are grateful to Scottish Cycling and South Ayrshire Council for enabling us to host the event with quality guidance on appropriate mitigation measures.

The Doonbank Trofee is expected to be one of the first competitive cyclocross events to run in Scotland since the pandemic began.

Organisers will email event information to all participants no later than 5 days before the event. Please take time to familiarize yourself with the details in this guide and the measures we are adopting to support everyone’s safety.

Throughout the event, efforts will be taken to reduce contact between riders in each of the three fields.
