Weekly Rides

Ayr Burners members meet every Saturday morning at 0930 by the Burns Museum, Murdoch’s Lone, Alloway for a weekly road ride.  Duration is typically 2-3hrs at a social conversational pace.  The route changes depending on weather and wind conditions, and typically finishes with a visit to the cafe on our return.  Do feel free to join us for a couple of rides as a guest !

Similarly, a group meets at Doonfoot Co-op at 12.15 on Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes.  One of the very few benefits of Coronavirus is that many of us are now working from home, so this provides an opportunity to go round Pennyglen or over Carrick Hill and get back in time before the boss notices we’re missing.

Over the Winter Months, we run a weekly Cyclocross training session in conjunction with several other local clubs.  This is typically held at Fullarton Woods in Troon, meeting at the Fairy Trail carpark for 7pm, however the location does occasionally change so check the Facebook Forum for latest updates.

Member-led activities

Individual members frequently post ride suggestions and activities on our Facebook Forum – these are publicly viewable and company is always welcome !  Please check details for ride type and duration.  We also now have a WhatsApp group for arranging ad-hoc rides, so if you’re not included in that, but would like to be, let us know.

Annual Series

We normally run an annual league of events covering a variety of disciplines, and biased towards participation rather than speed or strength.  Assuming the easing of Covid restrictions continues, we plan to do the same this year but obviously this is subject to change.  For 2021, the calendar will comprise of three types of challenge –

  • The Strava Series events  which involve a social-paced group ride featuring optional timed “segments” throughout.  The group always stops to regroup at the end of each timed section !!!
  • July Distance Challenge (who can ride furthest during July)
  • August Climbing Challenge (who can climb the highest during August)

Based on the assumptions above, the proposed Ayr Burners club calendar for 2021 is as follows –

01/05 🔥 Strava Series #1… Ronde van Ayrlaanderen

05/05 🔥 Strava Series #2… Pennyglen Summer Series

02/06 🔥 Strava Series #3… Pennyglen Summer Series
