Ayr Burners members meet every Saturday morning at 0930 by the Burns Centre, Murdoch’s Lone, Alloway for a weekly road ride. Duration is typically 2-3hrs at a social conversational pace. The route changes depending on weather and wind conditions, and typically finishes with a visit to the cafe on our return. Do feel free to join us for a couple of rides as a guest!
Over the Winter Months, we run a weekly Cyclocross training session in conjunction with several other local clubs. This is typically held at Fullarton Woods in Troon, meeting at the fairy trail carpark for 7 pm, however the location does occasionally change so check the Facebook Forum for latest updates.
Individual members frequently post ride suggestions and activities on our Facebook Forum – these are publicly viewable and company is always welcome! Please check details for ride type and duration
We run an annual league of events covering a variety of disciplines, and biased towards participation rather than speed or strength. For 2019 there are two separate club series’ – our “Strava Series” and a Summer Series. The Strava series events generally involve a social-paced group ride featuring several optional timed “segments” throughout. The group always stops to regroup at the end of each timed section! The Summer series is run under similar format, however includes a few different events to mix things up.
The Ayr Burners club calendar for 2019 is as follows:
Between March and September we promote a series of activities aimed at younger children including our ‘Sparks’ (2-5yr olds on balance bikes), ‘Flames’ (4-8 yr olds on pedal bikes) and Family rides on easy, traffic-lite terrain. Details for 2019 are to be published shortly.
Our annual Cyclocross race, the Doonbank Trofee, takes place on the final Sunday of January at Rozelle Park. It is part of the Super Quaich series – a countrywide cyclocross series running through the winter months. The last edition took place on 9th December 2018.
Our annual Ayrshire Alps Sportive generally takes place on the final Sunday of August, starting and finishing in Kirkmichael with 60km and 100km rides to choose from. More information will be posted closer to the time, so keep an eye on our facebook page.
Ayr Burners also helps support the Irvine Beachpark Cyclocross National Trophy, hosted by Walkers CC in October. Last year was the first time the prestigious series has visited Scotland and it was amazing to see hundreds of the UK’s top CX racers competing in Ayrshire.
In 2018 we partnered with Cycle Ayrshire to deliver their ‘Ayrshire Cycle Festival’ from Troon in May. This included sessions for Sparks and Flames and a Family Treasure Hunt.
