Ayrshire Alps ‘Friendly’ Sportives – SOLD OUT

August 28, 2016 @ 9:30 am - 5:00 pm

Update 21/08/2016 – the Ayrshire Alps Friendly Sportives have sold out for 2016 and we already have a sizeable waiting list.  Following huge demand for the rides, we will look at alternative venues for 2017 in order to increase capacity.

Join us for an all-ayrshire road cycling challenge across the Ayrshire Alps Cycle Park.

There will be two ride options, starting and finishing in Kirkmichael. This is a non-competitive ride with a social focus and a challenging but hugely scenic route.

The Ayrshire Alps Friendly is a great opportunity to ride and socialise with cyclists from across Ayrshire and Dumfriesshire.

The ‘friendly’ part of the title came about from the 2015 Reliability Trial we ran to bring riders from local cycling communities and clubs together in a social environment. This remains an aim of the ride, alongside our broader goal to showcase the beauty and challenge of the Ayrshire Alps!

The 100km route heads west to the climb of Blackie’s Brae, then crosses back via Glenginnet and the slopes of Glenalla. Onto the big daddy of the ‘Nic O Balloch’. The shallow slopes of Tairlaw Shalloch are rewarded with a 5mile descent towards Straiton before the final categorised climb of Largs.

The 60km follows most the route of the 100km, but skips the climbs of Glenginnet, Glenalla and Largs.

This is a low cost Sportive at £10, with a food stop on both routes and marshals and signs around the course.

Thanks for your interest – feel free to bring a friend or two too! This is a non-competitive social ride on open roads and all participants are expected to ride with respect for fellow participants and other road users. As plans develop for the ride we will update twitter, facebook and our webpage, and all riders will be emailed a rider pack at least 48hrs before we roll.

You can read the review of the 2015 event online here.

With thanks to the Fresh Food Co. and Ayrshire Garden Studios for supporting the event and allowing us to put on an additional food stop!
